Bukit Panjang, which was previously referred to as Zhenghua, happens to be a residential town and planning area situated in the West Part of Singapore. The planning area is surrounded by Choa Chu Kang to the northwest, Bukit Batok to the west, the Central Water Catchment to the east, Sungei Kadut to the north, and Bukit Timah to the south. The average height of Bukit Panjang is 36 m.
Bukit Panjang Town History
Bukit Panjang, also referred to as Zhenghua for a few years, happens to be a suburban town located in western Singapore. Advanced earthworks and the development of this town commenced in 1981 on 15th June. HDB flats were constructed by 20th May 1985; however, only Blocks 1xx and 2xx had been set up until now. By 1989, Neighborhood 4 was up and running, and then Neighborhood 5 and 6 were constructed in 1995.
As compared to several other older housing estates like Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Panjang is a rather quiet town; however, several significant housing developments are going on at present.
The town can boast of a blend of new and old blocks of flats along with condos. At present, there are as many as 3 community centers including Zhenghua Community Centre, Bukit Panjang Community Club, as well as the recently constructed Senja-Cashew Community Centre.
The most recent shopping mall in Bukit Panjang is the Bukit Panjang Plaza which is situated at the center of the town close to Bukit Panjang MRT Station, Bukit Panjang LRT Station, and Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange. The mall has expanded in the recent past so as to include more shopping outlets in the building.

Apart from the Bukit Panjang Plaza, there are also 4 smaller shopping malls in the neighborhood which include supermarkets, hawker centers as well as other basic shopping outlets for fulfilling the basic requirements of the inhabitants. These consist of Fajar Shopping Centre, Junction 10 Shopping Centre, the Bangkit Shopping Centre, and Greenridge Shopping Centre.
The Bangkit Shopping Centre is full of activities during the weekends and is the Chinatown of the west during the Lunar Chinese New Year celebrations. The huge number of vendors in this particular shopping center will catch anyone by surprise and offers a variety of items at a very competitive price.
The most recent addition to these shopping outlets in Bukit Panjang is the Hillion Mall which was open to the general public in 2017 on 24th February.

There are 2 parks in this area, namely, the Zhenghua Park and ParkBukit Panjang Park. Zhenghua Park can boast of a fitness center, playgrounds, gazebos, along with a 2.5 km cycling and jogging track. A park connector which happens to be a cycling and jogging track actually connects 2 parks thus assuring the continuity of the present tracks of both these parks. There is also a sports complex in the close vicinity of an artificial pond along with a community center which is supervised by the Senja-Cashew Community Club. You will also come across a swimming pool, a badminton court, children’s pool, tennis courts, and street soccer courts in this particular sports complex.
As of 2017, this region can boast of as many as 6 primary schools along with 5 secondary schools.
